11% women in Russia have never visited a mammologist

11% women in Russia have never visited a mammologist, despite the fact that they know about the existence of such a specialist and the need for periodic checkups with him.

This is reported by the Dr. Evin website.

When was the last time you had your health checked by a mammologist? Did you know that a breast tumor can be found in more than just a woman? In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, these questions were asked of Russian women, and the results were shocking in places.

The authors of the survey asked ladies how often they visit a mammologist. 32% women said that they make an appointment with this doctor on a regular basis. 28% said they go for preventive checkups periodically. 11% reported that they have never been to this specialist in their life.10% women answered that they rarely visit a mammologist, and 8% go to a doctor only if they have complaints or suspicious symptoms.

Another 8% go to a mammologist all the time because they have breast cancer right now. 3% often go to the doctor because someone in their family is sick.

It cannot be said that breast cancer is a rare phenomenon about which almost no one has heard anything. Only 48% of the survey participants said that they had never experienced breast cancer: they had never had the disease themselves, and no one in their immediate environment had ever been diagnosed with it. Another 25% reported that someone they knew had been diagnosed with breast cancer. A further 19% had been diagnosed by someone close to them, and another 9% had themselves been diagnosed.

What about signs of the disease? 25% respondents reported that breast cancer manifests itself primarily through lumps. 19% identified changes in the shape and asymmetry of the mammary glands among the symptoms of the disease. Another 18% are convinced that the disease may well be asymptomatic.

Another 15% think that in breast cancer, the most common symptom is bloody nipple discharge. 12% answered that the sign of breast cancer is skin changes. 10% highlighted pain and feeling unwell.

The majority of Russians are optimistic about the prospects for treating the disease. Half of the respondents are convinced: modern medicine is capable of defeating breast cancer, especially if the disease is found in time, even in the early stages. Slightly less, 46%, said: the circumstances may be different, but you should not give up for sure - even in the late stages. And only 4% think that cancer is a death sentence.

It turned out that not everyone knows that breast cancer can affect a person of any gender. 22% of respondents think that this disease can be considered exclusively female. 40% know that men can also face this diagnosis. Another 38% believe that breast cancer in men is extremely rare.

It is also advisable to learn that the timing of a breast job can and should be flexible..
