Women after age 50 may develop heart rhythm disorders

Often, post-menopausal women, which occurs between the ages of 40 and 50, can develop heart rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation.

This is reported by the Dr. Evin website.

Researchers from the American Heart Association have found that stressful life events and insomnia are the main triggering factors for the disease. The study was published in the Journal of the American Heart Association (JAHA).

Atrial fibrillation can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure or other cardiovascular complications. Sometimes the pathology is asymptomatic and may be discovered accidentally during an examination or when complications occur.

Researchers analyzed data from more than 83,000 questionnaires from women aged 50-79 from the large U.S. Women's Health Initiative study. During about a decade of follow-up, the study found: about 25%, or 23,954 women, developed atrial fibrillation.

The researchers noted that stressful life events, poor sleep, depression, anxiety or feeling depressed increased the risk of atrial fibrillation.

It is also advisable to learn that Dietary supplements can be detrimental to women's health.
