There are cases when mammography is contraindicated

Mammography is useful for early diagnosis of breast cancer, but it has contraindications, because X-ray examination is associated with small doses of ionizing radiation.

This is reported by the Dr. Evin website.

Women over 40 have a high enough risk of getting breast cancer that they should not refuse the procedure without good reason.

Contraindications:

  • pregnancy;
  • suspected pregnancy;
  • lactation period;
  • damage to the skin in the breast or nipple area.

If a woman has implants, it is important to inform her doctor, as a silicone endoprosthesis can make it difficult to perform a mammogram and additional testing will be required.

If there are no contraindications, experts recommend undergoing the procedure annually from the age of 40. The screening test can detect any abnormalities even before clinical symptoms appear.

The examination is most effective on days 5-12 of the cycle, counting from the first day of menstruation. The glandular tissue of the breast is no longer as swollen, and the doctor will be able to thoroughly examine for lumps. Menopausal women can have this procedure done on any day.

It is also advisable to learn that breasts may become uneven after a botched plasty.
