There are cases when a repeat mammoplasty is needed

There are times when surgery and rehabilitation are behind us, it would seem that the new breasts should please, but the patient returns to the operating table for some reasons.

This is reported by the Dr. Evin website.

Reasons for reendoprosthetics

There are several reasons why women return to their surgeon for implant replacement:

if there is a complication, such as capsular contracture (compression of the implant by the capsule formed around it), seroma (fluid accumulation), animation ("bouncing" of the mammary glands when the large pectoral muscle is tensed) and others;

  • implant rupture;
  • Aesthetically unsatisfactory result (you want a different size, shape);
  • Contouring of the endoprosthesis due to incorrect sizing;
  • ptosis (the natural process of tissue sagging).

It is worth noting that complications after mammoplasty - a phenomenon quite rare, and to minimize the risks, you need to carefully choose a surgeon, as well as be sure to adhere to the doctor's recommendations in the postoperative period.

Unlike other causes for re-endoprosthesis, which can be traced visually, implant damage and seroma cannot be detected independently. This requires a CT, ultrasound or MRI diagnosis. That is why women after mammoplasty are recommended to have routine examinations every year. Modern endoprostheses are produced on the basis of medical silicone. This material is not toxic, and in case of damage to the implant does not leak, and remains in place, so contact with internal tissues does not occur, and the risks of consequences are maximally reduced.

Before the operation, the surgeon gets acquainted with the results of the examination, assesses the condition of the mammary glands, and, based on the situation, selects the most suitable technique. The optimal shape and volume of the implants are also discussed together with the patient, based on the parameters of the woman and her wishes.

Surgery and rehabilitation

The implants are replaced under general anesthesia. The doctor removes the endoprosthesis and installs another one. The choice of technique is largely related to the previous method of implant placement.

If the breast tissue has been stretched, a one-stage lift is usually performed. After the intervention is completed, the surgeon sutures the patient and puts on compression underwear, which will need to be worn for 1-1.5 months.

The rehabilitation period to be undergone after reendoprosthesis is exactly the same as it was for the first operation. The approximate result can be evaluated after 6 months and the final result after 12 months. Scars also take about a year to form.

If you don't want to get new implants

There are times when a woman feels psychological discomfort from having a foreign substance in her body. Then the surgeon can simply remove the implants. The doctor removes them through an incision under the breast. It takes about a year for the scar to form, become thin and light, and for the tissues to finally shrink.

Second try: when a second mammoplasty is needed

If after the lapse of time the skin flap after the removal of implants remains a little stretched, or the patient immediately wants to create the effect of a small but firm breast, with a filled upper pole, lipofilling is additionally performed. Also correction of mammary glands with own fat can be performed as a separate operation, if the patient initially does not want implants, but there is a desire to increase the breast by 0.5-1.5 size.

The fat cells for lipofilling are taken from fat traps, e.g. on the abdomen, back, hips. The fat is then specially purified from impurities. After the operation, small punctures of up to 4 millimeters remain, which heal quite quickly.

After 3 months, the final result of lipofilling is visible. If necessary, the doctor performs additional correction. As a rule, on average, the result lasts about 10 years with a stable weight of the patient. Then the operation can be repeated.

It is also advisable to learn that it can be difficult to detect a pregnancy.
