Uterine myoma is easy to miss

Uterine myoma is most often found in women between 30 and 50 years old, it is easy to overlook, but it is one of the most common gynecologic diseases that affects the female reproductive system.

This is reported by the Dr. Evin website.

Myoma is a tumor formed from the smooth muscle of the uterus. And it has no age as such - it can be diagnosed in any woman. The insidiousness of the disease is that it may not make itself known until the last moment.

Risk factors for uterine myoma include:

  • early menstruation,
  • lack of labor,
  • late reproductive age,
  • obesity,
  • taking tamoxifen,
  • a large number of births,
  • menopause,
  • smoking,
  • inflammatory processes.

Myoma symptoms

In most cases, myoma is asymptomatic, and a woman may not even be aware of it. But in some situations, it can cause symptoms such as:

  • heavy menstruation,
  • bleeding outside of menstruation,
  • pain and discomfort during intercourse,
  • urge to urinate and constipation.

Myoma can be detected by ultrasound examination of the pelvic organs. The doctor will be able to assess the size, number and localization of myomatous nodes. Sometimes the specialist may prescribe magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Treatment of uterine myoma

To begin with, it is worth understanding that uterine myoma is treatable. And there are several approaches to treatment, which include:

  1. Conservative methods (medication, hormone therapy, etc.). It is prescribed only for the treatment of symptoms or as a preparation before surgery. The duration of treatment is 3-6 months.
  2. Surgical intervention. It is resorted to if the symptoms severely interfere with the patient's life or even threaten her health. Surgery can range from myomectomy (removal of only the tumors and preservation of the uterus) to hysterectomy (complete removal of the uterus).

In some cases, myoma can recur after surgery or progress over time. It is therefore important to have regular follow-up with your gynecologist and, if necessary, to consider alternative treatments such as uterine artery embolization or focused ultrasound therapy (exposure of myoma nodes to ultrasound waves, which causes the node to stop growing).

Can myoma be cured by diet?

You can find information on the web that following a diet supposedly prevents and reduces the size of myoma. This is not true. It is better to consult a doctor at once.

It's fair to say that although changing your diet will not reduce the size of your myoma, proper dietary habits are important for a woman's overall health. There are some recommendations that all women should heed:

  • not to consume large quantities of red meat,
  • Reduce saturated fat intake,
  • increase fiber.

Timely examination and selection of the optimal treatment method will help to achieve the best results and improve the life of patients. Each case is unique, and the decision on treatment should be made only by a doctor after a competent examination.

It is also advisable to learn that vaginitis isn't as bad as they make it out to be..
