University of Arkansas professor Mitch Brown surveyed 384 women about their attitudes toward muscular (and not so muscular) guys: the results are published in the scientific journal Personality and Individual Differences.

Participants were presented with a picture of a jock and then a picture of a skinny guy. Most of the girls admitted that the muscular man was more attractive to them as a partner for a romantic date.
However, everything is not so unambiguous. Even though the athletic handsome men are unrivaled in affairs, as soon as it came to marriage, the girls were in no hurry to make a choice.
The survey showed that in the context of long-term relationships it was important for women to find "a kind person who will support their family". External data was not a priority.
"Nice guys who are friendly jokes can actually outperform athletic competitors when it comes to attracting a woman who is looking for a serious relationship," the expert explained.
